Justin Stebbins, BA

Studio@gottadance2.com

Justin Stebbins, full-time staff member, holds a Bachelors of Arts from Bates College in Interdisciplinary Studies, Dance and Education with an emphasis on the mechanics partner dancing, dance choreography, and performance/competitive analysis. He continues his education by training with master dancers to obtain further degrees and certifications through the ISTD and other dance education organizations.

Justin teaches social and competitive dancing in both American and International style dance. He also teaches performance based classes, musical staging for competitive dancing, as well as theater movement for the stage.  He is currently the coach for the Colby Dance Team, assistant coach at his alma mater, and choreographer for the Bowdoin Performance Team. Justin's joy of dance, he shares with kids at local elementary schools. He feels it is very important to give children the opportunity to dance as part of a well 'balanced' curriculum, providing both activity for the body and mind.

At the age of 5, Justin made his first stage appearance as the 'lead parrot' in the kindergarten pageant. After which, there was no getting him off the stage. By the age of 12, Justin auditioned for and was offered the role of Flute in 'A Midsummer's Night Dream', by William Shakespeare. After 6 years, many plays and musicals, both local touring and home-based, Justin was asked to play Puck in 'A Midsummer's Night Dream' as his last production before going to Bates College. While involved with theater, Justin was the drum major for the marching band, played the tuba for concert band, began taking ballroom dance lessons and theater jazz classes.

Once at Bates College, Justin was accepted into the Modern Dance Company. His focus was redirected into dance allowing him to accomplish the strength in dance that equals, if not exceeds, his acting ability. Justin studied everything from stage lighting to history of Modern Dance, movement education to sports medicine, and modern dance to dancesport.

After his years at Bates in 'academia', along with his vast background in theater, Justin has developed and continues to fine tune 'Modern Fusion*TM (Dec. 2001). This style of dance movement is an integration of theater, modern, and classic ballroom partnering. Along with this program, he continues to train with Laurence Miller as his coach, and other trainers from NYC, Washington, DC, and Florida. Justin is teaching full-time at Gotta Dance 2 in Westbrook, Me. He is available for teaching workshops, choreography and private coaching for singles, couples, groups, and corporations.
